Jonathan Thon, PhD

CEO, Chief Scientific Officer, Co-Founder

Jonathan is currently an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Jonathan received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of British Columbia, Canada, where he worked closely with Canadian Blood Services for the improvement of the processing and storage of blood platelets. Jonathan co-developed PBG’s bio-mimetic microfluidic platform to generate human platelets.

Joseph Italiano, PhD

Chair of Scientific Advisory Board, Co-Founder

Joseph is currently an Associate Professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and holds cross-appointments at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Joseph received a B.Sc. in Biology from The College of New Jersey and a PhD in Cell Biology from Florida State University. Joseph has over 15 years of experience studying platelet production.

Sven Karlsson, CFA, MBA

Chief Business Officer, Co-Founder

Sven has a decade of experience working across venture capital, business development, and finance. Prior to founding Platelet BioGenesis, Sven worked in Mergers & Acquisitions at J.P. Morgan, as an Analyst at a hedge fund, and as a Senior Manager of Investments at a venture fund. Sven received a B.S. in Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA with Distinction from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Lea Beaulieu, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

Lea is currently a Senior Research Scientist at Platelet BioGenesis. Lea received her Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Pathology from the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining Platelet BioGenesis, Lea was as an Instructor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she studied platelet and megakaryocyte biology.

Christian Peters, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

Christian is currently a Senior Research Scientist at Platelet BioGenesis. Christian received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Toledo. Prior to joining Platelet BioGenesis, Christian was a Scientist at Harvard Medical School studying platelet granule sorting and Cerulean Pharma where he worked on target validation and anticancer drug development.

Jorge Valdez, PhD

Research Scientist

Jorge is currently a Research Scientist at Platelet BioGenesis. Jorge received his Ph.D. in Biological Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Platelet BioGenesis, Jorge worked on engineering 3D cellular microenvironments to study cell-cell communication networks in diverse biological contexts.
